Migration from Visual Basic 6 to Visual Basic .NET in the financial sector

Although spending on technology in the banking sector is growing steadily, innovation is still very gradual and involves primarily improving existing systems or extending them with new processes. The challenge often faced by companies operating in the area of finance is remodeling or migrating their applications. Many of them are outdated, burdened with high technological debt, and their use poses a significant risk to the operational activity of the company, or considerably limits its development.

When such outdated systems actively support many crucial processes or business areas of an organization, they cannot be just disposed of. A technological upgrade is then necessary. That was also true in the case of one of our customers in the financial sector, where the migration to a new technology became a necessity when Microsoft officially announced the end of support for Visual Basic 6.

As part of the cooperation, in addition to moving the applications running on VB6 to Visual Basic .NET, the project team also provided the client with detailed technical documentation containing migration guidelines and post-migration recommendations.

Thanks to the migration, the customer is now using modern, manufacturer-supported technology in their key activities. The implementation of the project in the SCRUM methodology allowed them to gain full control over the workflow, and the outsourcing of Polish IT specialists guaranteed around 50% savings in costs, compared to the prices offered by local Swedish suppliers.

Rapid technological development of hardware and software results in changes in the life cycle of IT systems.
